Staggered work hours help not only me, but everyone else on the team get their work done. In the end, it’s all about organization and managing time correctly. My email is closed, my phone is on “do not disturb” mode and my employees are conscious that I will get back to them in the time I have separated to work with them. I also turn off other things that are a distraction, even if these are work-related tasks. At work, I set statuses on Slack so that everyone is aware I am going through work which requires all of my attention. You also have to put aside the correct amount of time for yourself in order to not be behind or take time out of your personal life to keep up. As a manager, you are constantly being pulled in different directions and it’s completely normal your team needs you. Make sure to separate uninterrupted time for yourself. This has helped my team know I am working on what they need from me, but also keeps my day structured. When it comes time to be available to my team, I will always send a Slack message saying I am available for the next 30/60/90 minutes for any questions or time-sensitive responses. If I try to work on both simultaneously, I am never as productive as I am when I set aside time to work on one or the other. Typically, my inbox is a mix of projects I need to handle and questions/feedback I need to chime in on for my team.

I find block scheduling my day to help immensely in this area. Block Out Your Schedule And Focus One One Thing At A Time

This will not only help you to achieve better balance, it will encourage your team because they will have more autonomy. Transition to a point where you are only dealing with the most complicated issues and the big picture stuff. Find people who are responsible and capable and start putting them in charge of tasks, then projects and then people. Delegation is not easy, but if it doesn't happen, things will eventually be slowed down and scaling becomes difficult. I think most of us have been guilty of this in some way. Many times a manager, in a well-intentioned attempt to maintain control over every detail, will set up an environment where nearly everything must go through them. Delegate Responsibilities And Lift Others Up
#I AM AVAILABLE AT ANY TIME PROFESSIONAL#
It's important to not neglect your personal goals for your professional ones because they are just as important for fueling your creativity and avoiding burnout. If you notice one list getting more attention than the other, you know you need to prioritize and focus more on your other tasks. Separate your personal goals from your professional goals if you feel like you lack balance trying to achieve both. Sharing my goals and progress with them also helps motivate my team members to reach their own goals. These weekly meetings are also a great opportunity for them to ask any questions they have and then after the meeting, I can go back to working on my goals and be confident that my team has everything they need from me. Typically, I mention it briefly during company meetings and this lets my team know that I'm working on something so that they understand why I'm busy sometimes. When I'm working on meeting my own goals, I like to share those goals and my progress with my team.
